Why the hell do people put their phones on speaker phone and hold it two inches in front of their face while driving? It’s not hands-free because it’s still in your f***ing hand!!!
All I see from it is that you get all the inconvenience of having the phone in your hand, the added danger by not having your hand free (or on the steering wheel where it should be), and worse sound quality for both you and the person on the other line. I just think people look like complete idiots driving around like this and it gets me irrationally upset.
Is the benefit in states where hands-free devices are required so that you can claim you were using GPS if you get pulled over?

It isn’t, that’s why you can still get a ticket for it.

seriously! just get a dashboard mount and use voice control, gesture control, Bluetooth, ect.. there are literally thousands of solutions to solve having to hold the phone.

I always get mad when I see this and I know the car they’re in has bluetooth. READ YOUR DAMN OWNERS MANUAL AND LEARN HOW TO HOOK THAT SHIT UP TO YOUR CAR.

I don’t understand why people do this at all, driving or not. You’re holding your phone and talking. You might as well just hold it up to your ear.

The same reason people in my office will dial a number on speakerphone and let the whole floor hear the ring tone and only then pick up the handset- for inconvenience.

In their cars? For me, not an annoyance, just a “why would you” kind of moment.
But, in a grocery store? In a mall? On the street? In a bus?
Dude, I don’t want to listen to your whole conversation over crappy speakers.

I feel the same way about people I try to pass on the highway who are obviously not using cruise control. I move to the left lane to overtake them and then they starting speeding up.

There’s an old guy at work that will ALWAYS use speakerphone when calling people. He’ll hold his phone four inches in front of his face and just walk around talking to people. Just one of his infuriating idiosyncrasies.

Because some people are stupid. I see people on their phones in brand new cars with BLUETOOTH so you don't even need your phone in your hand to talk. And yet there are still people holding their phones. DID THE DEALERSHIP NOT SHOW YOU HOW TO USE IT, OR ARE YOU TOO LAZY TO VOICE ACTIVATE OR TOUCH A SCREEN THAT ISNT YOUR BLOODY PHONE?? :-/

I have nothing of value to add to this (I agree lol) other than the fact that the guy in that stock photo is totally driving a first generation smart W450 coupe. :)

Yeah, I’ve noticed people doing this all over the place. I can’t stand it.

It’s usually old people. They also turn the volume up on their phones when the person on the other end says “I can’t hear you” as if that will make their voice louder or clearer.

They see people on TV do it, so they think that’s how it’s supposed to be used?

I blame the Kardashians. I recall seeing a clip of one of them driving, while holding the phone out like that, while being filmed (in a luxus SUV no less). Shortly after that aired, I began seeing big SUVs driven by women, doing that exact thing.
It makes people look important, they think..
